New Realism

The French art critic, Pierre Restany advocated a "poetic recycling of urban, industrial and advertising reality.” Restany partnered with the French painter, Yves Klein to create a new group of artists called the New Realists.

Klein, Arman, Christo, and Niki de Saint Phalle were associated with the movement. Saint Phalle painted male human forms on canvas and she shot them. This series, Les Tirs (The Shots) made the artist (in)famous in her lifetime but she was largely left out of the history books.
